THE MAHABHARATA QUEST: THE ALEXANDER SECRET by CHRISTOPHER C.DOYLE

BOOK REVIEW: 3.6 stars out of five

After reading The Mahabharata Secret, I picked this book as I felt a craving to complete the remaining books in the The Mahabharata series. Yes, the plot was good, but it did not blow my mind away like it did in the first book.  As it happens with most trilogies, the level of intrigue has decreased in the second book, because I already knew how things would turn out. At times, it felt like a chore. However, I appreciate the author's efforts in syncing various aspects of medical science with the legend of Samundra Manthan and Alexaander's journey to India.

It's clear that the author has done a lot of research and took pains to explain the complicated medical concepts in a simple manner. The story ends with a cliffhanger, leaving the readers curious about the next book.  In the first book- The Mahabharatha Secret, readers get an opportunity to experience ancient secrets like invisible vimanas, and mythical weapons that create a high sense of danger and destruction. I mean real and visible physical threats. But in this book, the harbingers of doom were a bunch of viruses and bacteria, which failed to create the level of intrigue I felt in the first book. Yes, a virus can kill a lot more people, but it did not seem scary enough. There is no visual appeal to the threat. Maybe that is why I felt like I was reading an average book, but clearly, this book is an above-average read..I hope the next book will be more intriguing.
